Dr. Laura Jana is a pediatrician, a health communicator and the award-winning author of two parenting and three children’s books. She is focused on issues that extend far beyond a pediatric office, from health technology, vaccines and injury prevention to parenting, early literacy, brain and child development, car seat safety, and health and nutrition promotion/obesity prevention.
Dedicated to addressing the earliest and most pressing needs of all children – especially those living in poverty locally, nationally and globally – Jana is involved in children’s advocacy, early education and childcare in the United States. She has collaborated with ReadyNation, a business partnership for early childhood and economic success; was the founder of Primrose School of Legacy, Nebraska’s first 200-student, AdvancEd accredited educational child care center; and is a national strategic consultant with Primrose Schools.
Dr. Jana obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in cellular molecular biology at the University of Michigan, her M.D. from Case Western Reserve University and completed her pediatric training at both the University of California – San Francisco and at the University Hospitals of Cleveland. Having first served as a consultant to Dr. Benjamin Spock, she went on to co-found The Dr. Spock Company (one of the first online health sites in the late 1990s) and subsequently her own company, Practical Parenting Consulting.
Dr. Jana serves as an expert consultant for national news media, academic and government organizations, non-profits and major corporations, and she is collaborating with MIT Media Lab on global health technology innovation.
