Jonathan Benjamin-Alvarado is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. For the past decade, he has been instrumental in UNO’s effort to create a center for research, teaching and engagement on Nebraska’s Latino population serving as the Assistant Director of UNO’s Office of Latino/Latin American Studies. Dr. Benjamin-Alvarado serves on a number of local, foundation, and national boards.
Dr. Benjamin-Alvarado has written extensively on Latino, immigration and U.S. foreign policy issues. He is the author of two books on Cuba-U.S. relations and counts his eight hour dinner with President Fidel Castro as one of his most interesting experiences.
A California native, Benajmin-Alvarado received his Ph.D. at the University of Georgia. He has also atended UCLA, Harvard University and the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
