Gary A. Wasdin moved to Omaha in January 2010 to become the new Director of the Omaha Public Library. Prior to Omaha, Gary was the Assistant Dean of libraries at The University of Alabama, and the Director of Staff Development at The New York Public Library. Gary was also the director of the Fogelman Library at The New School, and the Head of Access Services at Wesleyan University. He has an MLS and an MS in English from Southern Connecticut State University, and a BA in Theater from Augusta State University, in Georgia.
Gary was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL, and was the baby of the family…the 4th child of a Southern Baptist minister father and a school teacher mother. “My interests were always varied and diverse, even from childhood. Science, math, history, theater, music…..I could never figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up! Librarianship was the perfect solution, as it has allowed me to do a little of everything.”
Gary and his partner Luis have 3 children, 2 grandsons, and 2 cats.
